Instagram @marz.fay, Official Contributor for LDN Creates - Kamal is an 18-year-old star in the waiting from North West London. If you are reading this in 2021 then you are here just before he is about to blow up, so count yourself lucky. A kid who last year was applying to Sussex University to study English, has now bagged himself a feature on Daves latest release “Mercury”. His fascination with music began at the age of 6 when he was given his first Piano. He fell in love with the instrument and developed his talent with piano lessons, allowing him to explore various different styles and genres. He then took the next step and applied to the Brit school; a performing arts school in Croydon. At this point, he hadn’t released or recorded any music professionally, as his main focus was playing the piano. The first song Kamal ever recorded was “Smilingdownthephone”. He recorded this at his local music studio in Harlesden where he was given a free session with the owner who was his friend's father. In 2019 this song was posted on Soundcloud as Kamal's first official release. In a matter of hours, the song blew up and he was getting contacted by managers and record labels providing their services. He later signed to Neighbourhood Records, home to world-renowned London rapper Dave. He then went on to officially post “Smilingdownthephone” as part of a two-song package named “two missed calls” which was released in August 2019. This release gave him a bigger platform and exposed him to fans coming from across the globe. His next release was a single called “blue” which was released in May 2020. This release gained attention from world-known pop star Billie Eilish, who playlisted this track. It’s a song that speaks of young love and some difficult emotions that come along with this addiction. When listening to his music you can tell that he has amazing writing abilities. He has described that “songwriting" is a form of therapy for me”, he mostly starts a song off with an emotion and then expands on it through imagination and exaggeration. His latest release “homebody” has currently racked up over 10 million streams on Spotify and is due to rise. The single was released in March 2020 just as the first lockdown was occurring. The song represents Kamal feeling unable to fully be himself in social situations and therefore finding comfort in his home surroundings. He also released a music video for this single on YouTube which had a minimalistic vision being based in his own bedroom. Kamal described that the release came at a perfect time, as people could relate to the song more due to the lockdown. Kamal is only at the beginning of his music career and is due to blow up and gain the recognition he deserves in years to come. This article is being written on 21/04/2021 and Kamal currently has 7.38k subscribers on YouTube, 17.2 k followers on Instagram, and 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. I have no doubt in mind that in a years' time these figures will have doubled, if not tripled.
