Instagram @shyfigures, Official Contributor for LDN Creates - So you want to be an entrepreneur? Or are you happy with just doing a freelancer? What is the difference I hear you ask? Well, freelancers simply work for themselves and often by themselves without an employment contract. Freelancers are free to work on projects they choose, when they choose but often at the request of a client. A freelancer is legally responsible for paying their own taxes and arranging their pension plan etc. If a freelancer doesn’t work they won’t get paid. Ok, so you get the point. An entrepreneur sets up a business that is dependent on systems and automations that will eventually run itself. Entrepreneurs make money whilst they sleep. They do not need to have direct involvement for it to operate. An entrepreneur sets up a business using other people’s money (or their own) with the hopes of making a profit. If an entrepreneur was to leave the business, the business would still exist. Freelancing is a necessary bridge on the entrepreneurial journey. It comes with many advantages such as test trading, networking, learning how to find clients, talking to them and ultimately get them to pay you for a product or service. For many, freelancing becomes the first step out of a 9-5 job. But bear in mind, entrepreneurship is the next level up. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone, some people may not want the responsibility of running a business. Believe me, this comes with its own challenges. Freelancing may be mire attractive due to its flexibility but many do not ever develop into entrepreneurs. They are happy to use their skills to assist another and to be frank not everyone has the entrepreneurial mindset. Whether you are a freelancer or an entrepreneur, one thing is for you, there are certain steps that you must take to ensure your success.
